Acclaimed Philadelphia singer-songwriter Dave Hause has released “…And The Mermaid”, Hause’s seventh solo album, together with SBÄM Records and Blood Harmony Records. Recorded at Rain City Recorders in Vancouver, BC, with Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung), the 10 songs on “…And The Mermaid” deliver a welcome jolt to the system—a powerful rock record that blends Hause’s signature lyrical flair and knack for infectious melodies with his plaintive vocals and razor-sharp musical touches.

After spending several years exploring and being warmly embraced by the Americana and singer-songwriter world, Hause says his current muse has led him back toward a version of his roots. “Those records gave me enough confidence to return to rock and punk and say, ‘Yeah, I’ve got nothing to prove. I’m just going to be myself.’”

Hause will also be touring the US, UK, and EU throughout 2025 in support of “…And The Mermaid”. He’ll support The Gaslight Anthem and The Bouncing Souls in select US markets and will headline and play multiple festivals across the UK and EU this summer and fall. Tickets for all shows are on sale now, with a full list of dates below.

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be in a rock ‘n’ roll band”

Dave Hause had an epiphany while rewatching Goodfellas. “There’s that scene at the beginning where Henry Hill says, ‘For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.’” Growing up in Philadelphia and now living in California, the singer-songwriter realized he always longed to be part of a different kind of mafia.

“This record is my realization that for as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be in a rock ‘n’ roll band. This album is that rock ‘n’ roll band, distilled into 10 songs.”

“I had made a couple of records in a row in Nashville and was really happy with how they turned out,” Hause says of 2021’s Blood Harmony and 2023’s Drive It Like It’s Stolen, both produced by Will Hoge with top-tier session musicians. While powerful in their own right, those records leaned into the Americana-tinged music Hause had become known for as a solo artist. He toured solo extensively, and also performed as a duo with his brother and longtime collaborator Tim, which required paring the songs down.

But playing those same songs in recent years with his occasional band, The Mermaid, at his celebratory hometown weekend festival Sing Us Home in Philly, Hause realized: “I just missed plugging in and turning it up. I missed the energy that it takes to deliver that kind of show.”

Though the former frontman of beloved Philly punk band The Loved Ones is no stranger to going full throttle, it had been a while since The Mermaid—currently made up of his brother Tim Hause on guitar and vocals, bassist Luke Preston, keyboardist Mark Masefield, and drummer Kevin Conroy—had gone on a proper tour. And they had never recorded together.

“This is the first time I took this band into the studio and said, ‘Whatever happens, dammit, we’re going to sound like us. I’m not going to Nashville to hire the best players money can buy. This is our sound,’” Hause says of the ethos behind …And The Mermaid.

After nearly 30 years in music, the album also marks several other firsts. It’s the first in his solo career to feature the full band as part of the songwriting process. It also includes Hause’s first cover song on an album of original material—a harmony-laden rendition of “Bible Passages” by Rise Against’s Tim McIlrath. “I finally felt comfortable enough to include a song I believe in, even though I didn’t write it.”

Dave Hause isn’t alone on “…And The Mermaid”—and he’s looking forward to taking these songs and this band on the road, plugging in the amps, turning up the volume, and celebrating with an even bigger crew: his fans. He hopes they experience the same kind of awakening he did while making the album: that belonging to something bigger than yourself can give life a whole new meaning.

“I hope people take away the belief that we can accomplish things bigger than ourselves if we choose to work together,” he says. “That’s what a band promises. That’s what a live music event promises. That’s what a festival promises. That’s what relationships promise. When you can collaborate, it’s better than being isolated and living in fear. It’s chaotic. It can be messy. People are going to fight. Someone’s going to eat the last piece of cake and you’ll be mad at them—but hopefully, there’s enough goodwill in the mission that you can forgive each other and say, ‘This is bigger than anything I could’ve done on my own.'”

Dave Hause will be performing throughout 2025. Dates are listed below, with more to be announced soon.
